Quick answer: A good nootropic label shows the serving size, the amount of each ingredient in mg or mcg, the extract strength (for example Bacopa standardised to 50% bacosides) and the other ingredients. Hidden amounts, proprietary blends and disease claims are red flags.
1. Serving size
Is it one capsule or two? All amounts on the label refer to one serving.
2. Amounts and units
Huperzine A is measured in micrograms (mcg); herbs like Bacopa in milligrams (mg). A thousand mcg make one mg.
3. Standardisation
"Bacopa extract 300 mg (50% bacosides)" tells you far more than "Bacopa 300 mg".
4. Proprietary blends
A blend lists a total weight but hides individual amounts. It makes comparison impossible.
Red flags
- Claims to cure or reverse disease
- "FDA approved" badges
- No amounts at all
